A pool renovation that goes beyond surface aesthetics
The client and expectations
Beyond the structural condition, the pool also presented a critical technical limitation.
In what context did the project take shape?
What did the client truly want, beyond a pool?
The project involved the renovation of a private swimming pool originally built around 12 years ago, located at a seaside holiday villa owned by a family.
Over time, the pool had suffered significant wear, both aesthetically and technically.
The clients’ primary request was to replace the existing liner, which had become heavily deteriorated, and to update the overall look of the pool.
They wished to move away from the original beige finish towards darker, more contemporary tones inspired by natural materials such as stone and concrete — solutions that would feel modern and elegant.
Its diamond-shaped geometry, combined with one skimmer and two return inlets, resulted in poor water circulation.
This led to stagnant zones, particularly in the corners, where dirt and debris accumulated due to insufficient flow.
+ surfaces that required complete re-plastering and smoothing before any new finish could be applied
Once the renovation works began, several hidden issues emerged.
Behind the old liner, extensive deterioration was discovered:
What were the most important decisions?
All internal pool components were replaced, including the skimmer and the bottom drain.
Two additional return inlets were added, bringing the total to 4.
Their orientation:
This ensured balanced circulation throughout the basin.
In parallel, the sharp angles of the diamond-shaped pool were subtly softened through targeted structural modifications, reducing dead zones and improving overall hydraulic efficiency.
For the interior finish, the clients selected a high-end liner from Renolit Alkorplan Prestige, part of the Touch range.
With a thickness of 2 mm and a refined textured surface inspired by volcanic stone, the chosen dark grey tone delivers a contemporary, natural aesthetic while elevating both durability and tactile quality.
Design and technical decisions
2 outlets direct flow straight ahead
the other 2 are angled laterally
Improved hygiene and water quality thanks to optimised circulation
Enhanced thermal behaviour, as the darker liner supports more efficient water warming
Reduced maintenance requirements and fewer stagnant areas
The new liner is backed by a warranty of over 15 years, providing long-term peace of mind
A renewed pool interior with a modern, natural aesthetic
traces of mould and vegetation
This project highlights how hidden conditions often define the true scope of a renovation
What appears to be a simple aesthetic update can reveal deeper structural and hydraulic challenges — and addressing them thoughtfully is essential for long-term performance.

The result is a cohesive, balanced design where the pool feels fully integrated into its architectural context.
The stone-inspired liner creates visual continuity between the pool interior and the surrounding outdoor spaces, particularly the Luserna stone terrace.
The intervention focused entirely on the pool structure, internal components, hydraulic optimisation, and interior finish — achieving a significant performance upgrade without altering the existing plant equipment.
